After a four -year battle against the ALS, the member of the Hall of Fame of Professional American Football and former WCW commentator, Steve “Mongo” McMichael, died Wednesday at age 67.
Jarrett Payton, son of the late Walter Payton, announced the death of McMichael, stating that he died at 5:28 in the afternoon. That same day, earlier, it was announced that McMichael had entered palliative care.
McMichael was chosen for the Hall of Fame in February 2024, and his story about being selected while fighting the ELA monitored national headlines. It was a star defensive Towle for the Chicago Bears and was part of the winning team of the 1985 Super Bowl, which possibly had the best defense in the history of the NFL.
